Is insecurity actually a survival skill?

Do we feel these fears so that we will protect ourselves? Do they result in stronger pair-bonding? Is insecurity just a little whisper of loss that reminds us of the Big, Inevitable Loss that is our own mortality?

And did Illusional's post make any freaking sense at all?
