If you've been seeing him for 7 months, this sounds like a silly reason to break up. Are you sure there wasn't something else going on?

And yeah, I don't know why you didn't just tell him. If he refuses to be affectionate with you because it's your time to bleed, he is just an ass who needs to be dumped.
