My suggestions would be close to Zeni's...find stuff you're interested in (being in a big city there should be no shortage of events), surely you can find something that interests you in your events calendar and in specific interests usually the same kind of people will show up time and time again..so there you'll have someone who shares some interests with you and you can meet candidates in this way.
