Advice? Should we be friends? Why the sudden change?

In September I've met this guy through a mutual friend at work we all work at the same job. We've been hanging out , go on dates, text and ft each other everyday, see each other About two/three months goes by our feelings became strong. We kissed and then few weeks later we had sex. It continued until about recently (last week as would still see each other, FaceTime occasionally. ) we hung out Christmas Eve wend for a drink until Christmas Day.I start noticing some changes after Christmas yeah we both got each other gifts etc but he was acting a little weird I would see him at work his hi would be a little off and strange not to mention his friend who also works with us just got into a relationship with one of my other co worker they're close everyone knows their business (not a lot of people at my job knows that the guy and I were talking) and we would hang out with them also we hung out with them Christmas Eve. Anyways , the guy has been acting weird he would still ft text me everyday call me babe etc. Friday we talked the whole day but he sent a random text saying

"Something I wanna tell you.. I think we should go back to friends. It's something that's been on my mind recently. The "relationship" we have now seem like a cordial friendship. We see each other every now and then. I'm a main factor in that I know but you know I do a million and 1 things a day and be so ****ing tired. This is the time I need to focus on what I'm doing and I don't want you to feel neglected or think I'm just ignoring you. That'll do nothing but make you resent me. I'd rather tell you this now and have some type of good terms with you than just have you end up hating me or something. I hope you understand."

I was confused about what he said because it was random I didn't feel like this relationship we had was a cordial friendship and him being busy I know he only had two days off but he would still hang out with me I had two jobs and still found a way to spend time with him. Idk how I should feel at this point . I told him we can become friends again but it feels so weird Idk I didn't talk to him for two days a tried to break the ice with him it still feels as if he don't really want to talk. Or maybe I'm acting weird

Hmmm... there's the sugar-coated answer and the honest answer.

One of my friends at university was in a relationship. Her boyfriend was bland but she was with him because he was *fit*. She was what you would call shallow. Anyway, she needed help with her work and one of the other guys on campus (a married man) came to her aid. She fell for him and tried and tried to get him... but then when he eventually slept with her, she dropped him like a sack of potatoes. The challenge was over.

That probably wasn't the sugar-coated answer but you get the idea. I think there are many people in the world that have idle flirtations with the idea of being with someone else. It gets physical and then they realise the other person is not their type.

Credit to him though, he told you honestly he didn't see it going anywhere and didn't string you along...
