Meh... Either you want to make it work bad enough or you don't.
My bf was in Iraq for about 6 months. He just got back a couple of days ago. We stayed in contact via phone and email. That was pretty tough.
If you tell yourself such things... you will have no choice but to make it so.
How about telling yourself something more realistic like:
"I will try my damnedest to make things work."
Then if you fail, it's not for lack of effort. It also won't prevent you from trying again.
