I think this is a good letter. I know it sucks breaking up with someone, but this seems like a good way to do it

Here's a letter I've put together to help those of you who find it hard to break up face to face. The "Dear John letter" isn't exactly a new thing - but if sensitively written it take the edge off the situation.
Or it could go the other way and turn nasty. That's why this is supposed to be light-hearted - and if you're on the receiving end of one of these letters take comfort from the fact that you've probably had a lucky escape...
Dear John / Dear Jane

I also think that one of the most respectable thinks you can do is break up face to face. I know it can somtimes be hard but, take it from me, it sucks to be on the reciveing end of a dear john e mail.
I agree - but sometimes people are so scared of facing up to the situation that they stop communicating altogether, hoping that eventually the message will sink in that they have had enough. This is much worse than a Dear John letter.
At least a letter gives the situation "closure"...

LOL... . That is so funny!
I will eventually have to do the "face to face" break up and to be totally honest, I am so scared. He is such a sweet guy but he's not the one for me. I am so afraid of breaking his heart, He has been so good to me. any suggestons? I would love to have the guys perspective.

There's no magic solution, but I think if you were to start by telling him exactly what you just told us, you'd be on the right track.
I went out with someone once who one evening was about to break up with me when I gave her a gift and she chickened out (sounds like a bad soap opera). I didn't find out until months later that this had been her plan. If she'd followed it though we could have spared ourselves some miserable months together.
My point is, don't put it off. If you've made your decision, the sooner you tell him the better. It'll be hard, but it's harder carrying around the fear of breaking up than it is carrying around the relief (and a little guilt mixed in for good measure) after it's done.

By the way, if you have any lines you feel the Dear John Letter can benefit from, please let me know and I'll add them! If enough people contribute, it'll end up as the definitive breaking up resource!
