It originally is supposed to do nothing but pull stuck piece of food from between your teeth. How can a piece of string kill germs? Bah, nothing tooth past with a brush + mouth wash can't do.

Cavities and gum disease aside, poor dental care leads to periodontis, which leads to coronary heart disease. Poor dental care is also associated with pneumonia. You are gonna be one sick old guy one day, and your teeth are going to fall out like a five year old's. I have already gone through a lot of tooth pain. The worst one was the tooth where I actually had a root canal done. I don't care anymore, I have two huge holes in my left bottom of the mouth...at least they don't hurt.
