Being around someone who is "different"...

I've posted on here before about the fact that I tend to scare people away (well, females mostly).

Sometimes I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I'm "messed up" as it were. I've been under a psychiatrists care since I was 19 because I had really bad OCD, depression, and being somewhat bipolar among other things. They put me on a lot of drugs (too much I think now) which have had a permanent effect on me. I've been off of them for a while, but I'm still not quite "right" and I know it's apparent from the way I act.

When someone asks me what time it is, I usually have to stare at my watch for a few seconds before I can actually tell them. When someone asks me a question, sometimes I get lost in my head trying to think of answer. Although I still think pretty well, I'm slow at getting things done that require a lot of thought. (quality - ok, quantity - not so much).

My friends at work tease me a lot about it, although I don't mind. They call me Lenny (from "Of Mice and Men". I haven't read it myself). [NOTE: I've been called Lurch since high school because of the way I look.] One of my friends the other day said I remind him of "Winnie the Pooh on steriods".

So even though I believe I'm a nice enough guy (I read the nice guys vs bad boys poll too), I'm not suprised most women react to me with fear and loathing (and yes I do take a shower, use deoderant, etc. every day )

Just a question to the women here, and please be honest. How would you react to someone like me? (Not necessarily if I were asking you out, just being around me. And don't worry, I'm not going to try to hit on anybody.)

I would take the time to get to know them. I believe that a person has no right to judge someone else.... Everyone has imperfections that they don't like, but thats what makes you who you are.
I think that getting to know someone for who they are is 100 times better than making fun of them for something they have no control over!!

after reading your post, you seem like the guy who thinks to much, to even 'join' the team!

you present yourself to be 'out there'. as in, you do not belong and/or find it hard to adjust to the 'crowd'

when i saw your picture, i immediately saw the type of friend that i would get hammered with, and throw eggs with, at cars driving by

you seemed like a fun guy (even though you were going through a rough time - you seemed very positive)

my advice: forget what girls think about YOU!

FIRST: what do you think about YOURSELF!

You owe yourself MUCH more.

TRUST ME - CHICKS DON'T GIVE A RATS ASS ABOUT LOOKS! so i don't know why you are so concerned as to what chicks think about your photo!

I agree with RK.

I've known people in my life who had the potential to be really cool - but they aren't because they spend most their time complaining or whining about their life and why life is so unfair and how they have things so much harder.

I'll be honest - you seem to me to be one of those type of people. One of those people who just aren't comfortable with themselves. You HAVE to learn to be comfortable with who you are - cause you're stuck with him forever! ;p

Of Mice and Men is one of my favorite stories, but being called Lenny is not very friendly. Your "friends" sound not very nice.

I agree that you ought to try to find some level of comfort with yourself, and I (a woman) would not be afraid to be around you. You look harmless.

Yeah, you could say I'm not very happy with myself at the moment.

Been a rough time lately. Had to quit another class because I was failing. Went to handle more divorce stuff yesterday. Been running on 3-4 hours of sleep a night for over a month, so I could get work and school done.

I'm just going to take a while and see if I can get a handle on myself.
