Your life? Do you think God is the one who makes your decisions? Do you think that everything in your life happens because of God?

I used to not believe this...but now I do. I really do. I had a thread called Long Distance Love Help. Since then. No, since my g/f and I have been together we have had 2 breakups. One of which was me being unsure. One of which was us being unsure. I prayed and asked for God to put me on my path and if she was there then she was there. If she wasn't then she wasn't.

That evening was when we broke up...just this sunday. We broke up because...I told her we needed to talk less but I didn't phrase it right and she was like..."let's just be friends" I said ok...like no problem. That night I went to church. I drove like a maniac...I sped exsessively even though I had promised her I wouldn't (I still feel like that broke us more)...I didn't know why. I didn't get into worship like always. I didn't even pray. I closed my heart to god.

I left church early (first time ever...I was...angry...at god for answering my prayer so early). That night I sat here and talked to my good friend Matt about things. I came to the conclusion that it just wasn't meant to be. Even still, a part of me felt as if I had died. So...to myself...no...out loud...I yelled..."WHO GOD? WHO AM I SUPPOSED TO BE WITH?!" I wanted to know.

It's weird. She Im'ed me first. I had no plans of saying Hi anytime soon and faking being ok. She said...hi loveydovey Josh...I still love you...don't think I dont. Then she said....ok here I'll call you. She called...I explained what I was feeling and what I had done...She told me...after we got off the phone...She cried and regretted everything she had said. I explained...well I tried...to explain how much what we had done had broken my heart into figureative peices.

Whoo...sorry this is getting long. To make it short. We are back together and I feel it has brought us closer together. I think though. No. I know that it was God's doing that this has happened. If it hadn't we would not have grown closer. Nor would we be where we are today.

So if you believe God has a say so In anything just post here. Also, I would like some feedback on my wee lil story. Thanks for reading!

religion is very convenient...when our prayers our answers, we thank god and marvel at how he has provided for us...when ou prayers our not answered, we say it is not gods will and that he is doing what is best in our lives even if it goes against our own will...

so in the end, no matter whan happens, the religious person is able to say god is working in my life...

anyway...good luck to you...

I understand what you're getting at, but I wouldn't say that God has made it happen for you guys. I think you both made your own choices and that you both happened to agree. When Christians start attributing their experiences and outcomes to having God's hand in it, I become sceptical. I think Christians often make their own choices and use God as a justification for it.
Opinions aside, am happy to hear that things are working out for you and your girl.

Yea I think people make their own choices. And again, I can see this thread turning into a big old debate...but I still believe everything happens for a reason but not becasue GOD necessarily has any part in it.

does reason imply plan? if so...doesn't there have to be some type of architect or framework from which the plan arose? wouldn't that imply some sort of "god"? be it the holy trinity, allah, fate, destiny, mathematics governing the universe, or whatever you want to substitue for the world "god", it's pretty much the same thing. no?

Wow.. I was just making a comment... Whenever religion is brought up on this board it always starts a debate. I never said that was a bad thing, I was making a statement...Don't worry! You don't need to delete anything..lol

i have no idea what i believe in. i was raised protestant...but i'm not sure what i am. sometimes i start leaning towards christian beliefs...but other times i start leaning towards some vague type of spirituality...and other times still, i think maybe this is it, this earth is the end of the line for me and my awareness...

Rosebud----I do think God plays a part. Yes, God does exist and he does have a hand in this world and everything that goes on.

I am just wary of the extent people/Christians go to, in attributing all their choices and decisions making to being God's choice.
It's like playing chess. I am mean, c'mon, we move the chess pieces around ourselves. God doesn't guide our hands. We can pray to God for wisdom in our decision making, but ultimately the choice to move the pawns, bishops, knights, forwards or backwards is ours.

Give you an example that made me see the light. My friend married a bastard who beats her with his fists and leaves marks on her. They are both self-professed Christians who go to church every Sunday. I asked her why she didn't make a police report. She said, "God spoke to me, told me I should stick by my husband, love and support him, I can make him change his ways". Everything she said, began with an "I". It wasn't God making the decision, it was her.

What burns me up the most is when people in a leadership role, start using God as the defence for all their decision making and go on to telling their subordinates and the community that "God's hand is in this". That's unbiblical and retarded. No one can manipulate God to do stuff for them and telling people that God said this and that, and that y'all have to abide...yada yada......is unbiblical and retarded!

I digress.....but to the original poster TheOneandOnlyX.....my point is that there is a fine line between God's agenda and Man's agenda.

I never said there wasn't. But I don't believe anybody other than ourselves chose how or where we go in life! But I also believe everyone has a lesson to learn in their lifetime and that lesson is what they struggle with their whole life.

I'm not going to get into the "how everything got started" arguement, all I'm saying is my belief is this.. I make my choices in life whether good or bad, I learn my own lessons by the path I chose. There is no set plan, but I believe depending on what path you take there will be differnet obstacles you will have to endure to get to another spot where you will again have to choose another path and so on. And ok if there is framework for all this I believe it comes from a higher power not necessarily "GOD".

what does that mean? does that mean a higher power could be some race of aliens so advanced that they have created us? for all intents and purposes, be they aliens or some other higher power, would they not be our "Gods"? or do you mean some higher power as in some mathematical construct that is controlling the movment of every molecule relative to every other molecule in the universe as we know it? even then...would that not be our God, the thing that gave rise to and governs everything we know?

When I gave you that advice, I did not exactly mean that you shouldn't talk to each other as much. All I meant was that you should not let your relationship, i.e. your talking to each other, get in the way of your lives outside of each other. Basically, its fine if you talk a lot, but if you have the opportunity to go out and do something w/your friends, or to just sit at home and talk on the phone, then go out...you still need to have a life outside of the relationship, or the two of you will grow too dependent on each other. But there is nothing wrong w/the two of you talking a lot. I hope that clarifies things for you somewhat.
