I would argue that the women with self-esteem are the ones NOT getting the plastic surgery...
BTW - I am "older". (36)

Exactly. Which would suggest they've been able to accept they way they look. They internalize this, and it becomes a part of their psyche, and thus a part of their self-esteem.
It's a chicken-and-the-egg argument. Looks influence self-esteem. Self-esteem can influence looks. They're both heavily tied to each other, for better or for worse.
P.S. Sorry John, we're way off topic now.

Aaaaaaanyway, let's just concentrate on John's dilemma here.
I've very interested to know why the reason you two could never be more than friends is so hush-hush.

| | | You know, trying hard to convince someone that you're right, means you don't truly believe you are right. That doesn't apply to situations where your wellbeing is at stake, etc.
That goes to both of you, fighting for the cheese.

That may be the worst logic I've heard yet.
Anyway, we're still off topic.

| | it doesnt matter how we think about it.. do what you feel is the best.
and if you cant see anything's gonna happen between you two, why not try not to care so much about it?

| | | Haha...you sneaky.
I do care, because I care about her. And unlike many people who believe such thing is not possible, I'm content with just being her friend (for life). I just like spending time with her. I feel good when I'm with her.
And I hope I never develop the need to be more than that...that would not be cool.

| | I hope you mean you are "content with just being her friend" rather than contempt
anyway.. So you just want her to look at you like normal. I suppose if all this looking away business is because of some irrational crush she has on you, then she probably also finds those feelings not cool and wants to ignore them. But i'm not sure about the whole thing. Maybe she just needs new glasses or doesn't like your new haircut or she's just playing games with you.
well.. that was helpful.. ^.^
