You have to respect some of yor mom's rules since you are living under her roof. But you also need to make it clear to her that you are an adult and she needs to start treating like one, if she wants to remain in a good relationship with her.

If you want to be treated like an adult, you have to act like one by moving out and being self-supporting. Until then, I guess you will have to live with your mom's rules.

I bet she only wants what is best for you anyway.

Sorry; it's not about kid or adult. Her house, her rules. Sorry you dont have any other options

Don't worry so much about what other people have. I've found that 16 and 17 yr olds with too much 'freedom' are usually the children of extremely naive or lazy parents. Parents who don't seem to notice their kids are doing drugs, sleeping around, or drinking, or any number of other unbecoming behaviours.

My parents were crazy with the rules too, and I can tell you........I turned out way better than all those kids whose freedom I was jealous of.

It doesn't matter how old you are. You're still not able to take care of yourself, which defines you as a child. Children need rules.

See thats the thing about living at home. You have rules. You need to respect them.

I still live at home. My mom doesn't say it in so many words, but I know better then to bring a guy home to spend the night. I also know to check in with her if Im gonna be staying out super late. I do this mainly because I don't want her to worry. Luckily she isn't that strict. I mainly live with her because she cannot live on her own. But, I do still realize it is her house and that I have to respect that.

Sorry but as long as your living at home you need to respect what your parents think also. Once you are on your own, then more then likely you should be able to do what you want.

And those younger people with more freedom don't have it so well. They end up usually getting into lots of trouble etc just because their parents didn't keep a closer eye on them. Your parents just want whats best for you. Its not so much about control, but trying to keep you from making mistakes that they possibly made or others did. Respect that and be happy they care! Plus, your not always gonna have them around forever and then your gonna kick yourself for not getting to spend more time with them.

Yes I feel old. Especially living with my 58 yr old mother. But, Im there for her. She is handicapped and cannot do things around the house all by herself. I help her out and drive her around, and in turn, I live here and can go back to school.

It works out.

Better then shoving her in a home. Those places can be awful!

I know how you feel... My grand-father used to be a badass (insane) but my dad's side of the family took all of his money, used his mental handicap (one of the 7-12 diseases he had, another was brain-shrinkage) to give my uncle power of attorney, and shoved him in a home where he didn't even have phone access.

I know how you feel.. Stay there for her.

A+
