This question is for a friend. I have a GF; so I'm telling the truth.
I'm stealing his question from his blog so I can answer back

"Ok, I've got 5 minutes to bang this one out as I have to be in a meeting...

A few weeks back my neighbor said her mother had a great chick for me. The mom has been pestering my neighbor to ask me if I'd want her number. Well over some beers my neighbor told me this and I said sure, what the hell. Worst case senario is she's a rasist war pig and I have a horrid night (which I can then blog about). Sooooooo... long story short my neighbor comes by this weekend with this gals name and number. She pretty much knows nothing about her. The gal knows I'll be calling.

So this begs the question - how the hell do you cold-call a chick? Normally I'M the one getting the number and have established a report with them and have something to start with... this is a true cold call.

So guys/gals, how should I approach this one without sounding like a the total loser that I am?"

Weird. I don't know that there IS any way to make this call not be awkward at first. Hopefully they will be able strike up a natural conversation quickly...

Does this girl know that the call is coming?

If not, she might be incredibly pissed that people have been passing her number around.

If so, the thing is already set up, and all you have to do is work out the when & where stuff, so no worries about asking her out.

Yep, just make the call and keep it relatively short.

Maybe exchange simple pleanantries, the weather, where do you live, where do you work. But keep it pretty short.

Then say, lets meet up - and make the date something not too heavy. Maybe lunch, coffee, ice cream - or an early dinner.
