Is this too much "against the tradition"?

I recently quit a retail job at a clothing store to work in a different field that really interests me. There is a girl who worked there that I really had a crush on, and she seemed to be interested in me. It's hard to tell if she really was or not, of course. She'd make the occasional stare with the smile, and she was always up for a chat. The two hurdles were that she had a boyfriend and I never like going out with people I work with.

But now that I'm out of this job, I want to see if I could date her... but being as shy as I am, I'd like a wierd subtle way to do it. I'd like to see her at her other job, another clothing store, when it's not too crowded, talk a little bit, then give her my number. That way, even if there are people in line and what not it isn't as embarrassing, and it's up to her to "silently" give me the finger, so to speak, if she's not interested (by not calling).

I know that it's usually the girl who gives the guy the number, but do you think it isn't too awkward to do it the other way around, unsolicited?

no way.... as a gurl i love be given the guys number. it puts me in control and u are guarenteed that he really likes u and isnt going to never call. as guys sometimes do. i say go for it. slip it to her as friends. just go into ur old job for a visit. and be like we should hang out sometime. start small. u dont have to make it sound so official per say. im sure she will be flattered.

But you also have to be funny and interesting enough that it will make her want to use your number and not just accept it and put it aside somewhere to be forgotten. So it's not really too "against the tradition", but make sure that she'll WANT to call and get together with you.
