| Where do we go from here? I am in quite a bind. Since the beginning of this school year, a girl that I have known for a while has taken an increasingly large share of my thoughts. She and I have gone to school together for more than five years now (we are now Juniors in High School). It hasn't been until this year that we really struck up a real friendship. Once the dreaded Homecoming dance reared its head, I decided to ask her as she would be the only girl that I could go with and really enjoy myself. I am not a dancing man, but felt that it would be fun.
I was right. I had a good time. We each spent about half of the dance with our friends and the other half together. I had asked her two weeks previous to the dance and we had gone bowling together on the Friday in between. During homecoming week, the good old high school girl gossip machine kicked in. By all signs and what her friends were indicating, she really liked me, and by all the signs I could read, it seemed that she did.
We continued to get along last week (the week after Homecoming). Looking to follow up on the dance, I asked her on that Wednsday to go see Man of The Year (I was yet to read a review of it). She said that she was going out of town this weekend to visit her recently injured brother. She said that she would call me once she was certain when they were leaving and whether she could go to the movie. She didn't.
I was, needless to say, quite discouraged and confused. We both have good groups of friends and spend time with them. She is a confident, funny and smart person. She is always outgoing, but I have been told that she is shy when it comes to actual relationships. This week, she and I have continued to get along, but I feel that she is perhaps more distant (althought that could just be my paranoia). I really would like to ask her out again for this weekend, but I'm quite apprehensive about it. To tell you the truth, the whole situation is really crushing in a way, because I really do like her.
So should I continue to pursue her, or has the message been sent? Were her friends misinformed, and was I? Any and all comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
