| | | Taller and Older??? What do you all think about dating? Does the guy have to be older and taller than the girl? I have a friend that thinks that the guy has to be taller and the same age or older than the girl. | | Loveforum Breaktime | | | | Loveforum also recommend - Green tea - Help in weight loss and decrease rate of getting cancer.

| | | I think girls definetly like a guy who is taller than them. I also think that being a little older than the chick is preferred by most women, but not necessarily required. | |

| | | Does a guy have to be older? No. I'm a guy. And so far, I've ONLY dated older girls.
Does a guy have to be taller? No. I've dated some girls same height or taller. Granted I haven't dated that much, but some of them were taller. So this blows your friend's theory right out of the water.

| | | It doesn't have to be so, but societal stereotypes make it like that. Anyway, in general guys are taller than girls, but for me age doesn't matter. I'm taller than the average for an Asian and a Singaporean, so I'm not too worried about being taller than the girl lol. I'm more worried about being a lot taller than the girl.

| | | I think most girls would probably prefer a guy to be the same height or taller but it doesnt really matter at all.

| | | Unfortunately though age can be an issue whereas height isnt really.

| | | Age is both relevant and relative: When you're 16, a year or two is a significant, and real, obstacle; by the time you're 20, a couple years often doesn't matter; and when you're 25, 5 years (or more) needn't be a problem. In general, the younger person in a relationship is more vulnerable to emotional and psychological damage while the older risks social prejudice and punishment.
As for height - men average a few inches taller than women, so it's commonplace for the guy to be taller and this seems to have been socialized into an expectation. Nevertheless, I (at 6'2"; 188cm) feel uncomfortable with people more than 6 or 8 inches shorter. I've often wondered what it would be like to have a relationship with a woman of my height, or even taller . . . | |

| | | It has become an expectation...but that doesnt mean the guy "must" be taller. I would treat it as a bonus if a guy I was dating was taller but if not, it doesn't really matter.
Age shouldnt matter but it does - as you said, when you're 16 a year or two is significant...even when you're older gaps can still be a bit of a problem if theyre perhaps thirty years or even more - it's not so much the gap that is the problem though, more the reaction the couple might get from other people...
