an open relationship is one where you aren't exclusive with each other. you both are allowed to see other people while still seeing each other.

You have to define and set the limitations of an open relatoinship with the other person. Are you going to just be able to go on dates with other people? Or are you going to be able to do ANYTHING YOU WANT with the other people (including but not limited to sex) in which case your open relationship is now more along the lines of a "****-buddy".
