Give a gift to someone you are not involved with?

Hi everyone,
I'd like some opinions on this:

I met this girl last year through my cousin.
We actually see each other when we are with my cousin (the common friend situation)

During summer we hang a lot together as a group, and we got to know each other a little better. I told my cousin that i started to like her and she discouraged me from doing anything because it would mix up things since she is sort of the link

One day she invited me over to her house and i went. I kept getting mixed messages from her and still had in mind my cousin's words. Nothing happened anyway. We were both reluctant.

To get to the point, i study abroad. We keep in touch but very sparsely. She called me up the other day and asked me if i could get a pair of shoes for her because she couldn't find them back home. She offered to pay me when i get back.
I would really like to offer the shoes as a christmas gift , but would that be misunderstood as being too much between two people who simply like each other's company?

Um, nothing wrong with it at all. It's not like your giving her the gift of Man-steak anytime soon. As long as you stay out of her panties for the time being I dont think your cousin has any reason to pitch a fit.

Even if she did, I dont think its any of her business, but thats another story.
