Birdsong and rain.
Leafy shadows tremble on his face.
If he were beside me
the cold floor would feel
so much softer.
But he sleeps alone, and I
here, watching
him breathe.
Raindrops strike against glass;
arrhythmic drumming
in a room of silence.
Air bites at my fingertips
and freezes my lips.
How would it feel to have
his body along mine?
Instead of our hearts pounding
into the floor, they’d beat
against each other.
