| Friendship turned into Love Everyone has always wished for their love to come to them, but not me. I always wished for a happy
life, but what did I know. Who would have known that my next door neighbor Chou would be my love?
I've known him ever since we were born. Anyways, I don't know how it ended up with me and him but I always
thought of him as a very good buddy. When we were little, we used to run around his yard and I had so much fun
with him. In middle school, we would talk about the stupidest things in life. He was even my first kiss, but I
didn't want to tell anyone that. We were twelve then, but as we got into high school, things all seemed to
change. I mean, we're still good friends, but it's not how it used to be. I became a cheerleader at school
and became popular quickly. Chou, on the other hand, was an ultra skinny, short guy who didn't hit
puberty until his junior year! He was at least 100 lbs, and was like 5`2 back then, but during senior year, he
grew up to be 5'11 and I don't know how much he weighed but he sure did have a nice built body. I don't
know how he got to be like that, but it must have been when he went to Georgia during the summer last
year and then here he comes back looking so cute! I can't believe that I'm saying it, but it's true. That's when
I took a real notice to him and all the girls were now starting to like him too. But at school, the only girl that he
ever hung out with was with me. Don't ask me why, but he has always told me that I was his best friend. I was
glad to have a friend like him, where I could tell him everything. He gave me a shoulder to cry on when my
boyfriend's broke up with me or when I had family problems. He was such a big help to me. I don't know how I
could ever repay him.
Well, during our first day of senior year, girls were checking him out from left to right. He didn't seem to
notice, but I sure did. We walked to my locker and he carried my things for me. Such a gentleman he is. Well,
he walked with me to class and when I got in the room, my friends were there and they kept asking if Chou and I
were dating. I would tell them no, but then they asked me to hook them up with them. I couldn't imagine Chou
being with my friends, I knew how they were and he wouldn't like them. I know that for a fact, because I know how
Chou is. He's looking for a sweet, sensitive and down-to-earth girl. Well, at least that's what he told me. Anyways,
I told my friends that he wasn't looking for a girlfriend. And now they're saying that I don't want them to date him
because I want him for myself! I must admit that after thinking about it, I do want him for myself.
I never told Chou that I sort of liked him because it would have ruined our perfectly good relationship.
Well, by winter, he had a girlfriend that went to our school and her name was Joua Vue. She was like most hmong
girls, short, thin and pretty. The only problem was that she had a nasty attitude and she always gave me dirty looks.
Chou would tell me that his gf would say all these nasty things about me, which weren't true, but that's the way she
is. She doesn't want me hangin with him. I don't know why, but it can't happen, because Chou is my best friend and
I need him. I wish he knew. I don't know what he saw in her, but he sure did seem to like her. They dated for about
two months and then he broke it off with her. Then here comes Joua yelling at me in the hallway saying that it was
my fault for their breakup. I could tell that she wanted to kick my ass. You should have seen the fire in her eyes. I just
told her that I didn't know what she was talking about and I walked away. It's the smartest thing to do right? Wrong!
The next day, she rolls by and grabs my hair calling me names, saying that I took her man away from her. I wanted
Chou, but I wouldn't have stolen him. I'm not that kind of girl! Well, we got into a huge fight. She grabbed my hair
and scratched me, while I threw my girlie punches at her and I slapped her once or twice. That was all, but we
both got into a lot of trouble and ended up with an out of school suspension. It sucks.
During my day off from school, Chou didn't go to school, but he came by and told me that he was sorry
that I had a brawl with Joua. I told him that it was okay and it was very likely that she would think it was my fault.
He gave me a hug and that day, we watched movies and ate popcorn. It wasn't romantic or anything, but my
heart was telling me to go in for the move. My mind was telling me no because he just got out of a relationship and
who knows, Joua might come back to try and kick my butt. I don't wanna go through that again. I'm a cheerleader
and it's normal, but my parents will be so angry at me.
Well, spring time comes and Chou and I are hititng the beaches and the weather is just perfect. He takes
me out for icecream and we sit under the stars hoping that we would see at least one shooting star. We didn't see
any that night, but it sure felt nice to be with him. I wanted to tell him so bad about how I felt for him, but the words
just won't come out when I'm with him. Gosh, what am I to do?
Prom comes and I don't have a date! I think Chou has a date. I think he asked PaHoua Moua to go. Well,
that's a good choice for him. She's pretty nice to other people, but she has never taken a liking to me. Why do hmong
people at my school hate me so much? Gosh, I don't know, but is there something wrong with me? Anyways, this girl
was one of the prettiest in our grade. She had short silky dark brown hair and was about 5 feet tall and she had a nice
body for a girl. At least she looked good enough for Chou to be with unlike that Joua girl. Well, there's only four days
left before prom and I had a dress which I bought like three months ago thinking that I was going to prom with this
guy from another school. Things didn't work out between us, but I was still determined to go. I bought my ticket already
and I swung by Chou's house after school. He always got home before I did so I knew that he would be home. He was
outside washing his car and he stopped when I came onto their driveway. He said hi to me and asked me if I was going
to prom or not. I didn't want to tell him that I was but I didn't have a date so I said, I think. But then he had to ask me
why I think. I eventually told him that I want to go but not alone. Chou said he would take me. But what about this
PaHoua girl? I asked him about PaHoua, and he said that he never asked her. She wanted to go with him and started
rumors saying that they were going together. I was happy inside and was even happier thinking that I was going to
get a chance to dance with Chou!
Well, Prom rolled by and I put on my one-strap white gown. My hair was done at the salon and I got my nails
done three days ago. I put the finishing touches of makeup and waited for Chou to pick me. I could see that he was still
in room. Did I mention that our rooms were across from eachothes? How odd right? Yeah, but that's the way that it was.
I went to the window and called out his name. He was in nothing but boxers! He came by the window and I asked him
if he was ready yet. I don't know why I did especially when he was wearing boxers! He said sure if I wanted him to go like
this. I laughed and he said he'll be there in fifteen minutes. So during that 15 minutes I put on my shoes and took on last
glance in the mirror. The sun was shining and I just knew that the day was going to be perfect. Here was my chance to
finally be with Chou. I made a grand entrance walking down the stairs and my mom took pictures of me, and then the
doorbell rang. It was Chou and he came in and he said that I looked beautiful. My mom took pictures of us together and
my parents told us to have a good time. And off we went to prom.
We didn't go in any fancy limo, but it was nice to ride in his Honda Accord. When he parked, he got out and
opened my door and put his hand out. I took his hand and he led me out the car and shut the door. What a sweetie!
We went in and everyone was looking at us. I don't know why, but I hope I didn't have anything stuck in my teeth!
Well, he ignored it, but I couldn't and he led us to a table and we sat down. He went to go and get some punch for us
and that's when PaHoua dropped by saying that Chou only escorted me here, but he was going to spend the rest of the
night with her. I told her to scram, but she wouldn't listen and she kept on pulling my nerves saying this and that. I had
enough of her so I walked away. I couldn't find Chou anywhere and then I went to the food table and there he was...
with Joua. I thought that he didn't like her, but he was talking to her or maybe she was talkig to him. I went over there
and put my arms around his arm and led him away saying to Joua that I was sorry, but I have to steal him this time. We
went back to our table and Chou was telling me that he was thankful that I came to his rescue because she was getting
on his nerves but he didn't want to be mean, so he just kept on listening to her.
Well, we danced the night away and when prom was over, we went to a fancy italian restaurant and when
we were done, he paid for everything. I offered to pay for my food, but he said it was okay. Oh gosh, he was so handsome
tonight, I wish I could be in his arms. He could take any womans breath away. Especially mine! After that we went to a
place that was unknown to me. The stars were shining bright and it was a cool night. He gave me his tux coat to wear
and I thought that that was pretty generous of him. Well, we talked for a bit and that's when he confessed his love for me.
