| | | LOTR question OK, I absolutley loved the trilogy of LOTR. And although I knew nothing about it until the movies came out, I came to love all the characters, the story line, and everything else. Plus, I've always been really good at understanding all types of movies. Even the really difficult ones like Donnie Darko. So, back to it (sorry, I'm rambling). I got the movies, except for one thing, which is...
Why, in the end of Return of the King, does Frodo have to leave? Is it kind of a "deserved time or relaxtion" thing? Or is it because he was so cose to the ring that he couldn't be around others, or what? Please help me out here. It's been driving me insane not knowing. I feel incredibly stupid for not being able to figure it out, so be gentle, please.

| | | Frodo leaves at the end of the Return of the King because he can't bare to stay in the Shire any more. It basically got ruined for him. He wasn't content in his simple life any more and he couldn't just go back to the way things were.

| | | as i recall... all the ringbearers had seen sauran and were in his view. also frodo had been stabbed by one of the ringwraiths sword, which never would heal. they had sauran around them all the time and they had to leave so that a new age could live without a trace of the rings... the age of the king. | |

| | | It was also kind of a reward to the ring bearers like himself and Bilbo. They get to go wherever the Elves all went when they left Middle Earth at the Dawn of the Age of Man. The time for Elves was over. Bearing the One Ring was such a great burden that it really changed the people who bore it. Things just weren't the same anymore to them..they were forever like depressed and desensitized... This is as I remember from the book. Also, Sam who was the third of the ring bearers (as he bore the ring for a little while when they were hauling off Frodo, remember?) much much later, when he was an old man, the boat came back and picked up old Samwise Gamgee.
