| | | Oprah 11/1 - Remodel Your Man (?) I happened to catch Oprah today. I dont generally watch daytime television, but I was sick today and put myself to bed for a few hours. Just as I was turning the TV off so that I could rest, Oprah comes on - and the topic of the day was "What are men really thinking?"... with a panel of 3 men to answer womens questions, and a 4th: the author of "How to Remodel Your Man" (Bruce Cameron).
Anybody else see this one?
They made men out to be very simple creatures. No emotions. Not thinking anything at all like women do - not "feeling" beyond basic instincts and such.
For example, a woman asked "what do men think about right after sex?". She stated that women are thinking about long-term, the relationship itself, where its going etc. The men said they are basically doing an instant replay of the sexual act, deciding what to eat now, etc.
Another question was "why do men look at porn?". There was a statistic shared. I think "80% of men between the ages of 20 and 34 look at porn on the internet at least once a month" - according to their poll.
The women wanted to know why. The men wanted to know "why not?". Basically the answer was "because its there".
As for cuddling - I believe it was said that women love to be close, have that emotional connection. Men only do it because they know their women want to (concentrated effort). OR because they want to have sex. They dont just naturally want to be close and affectionate. They only feel that way "naturally" when they want to initiate sex.
I'm not sure I buy all of this. Especially after hanging out here and getting to know some of the men on LF. You guys seem to have feelings and emotions - more than just basic primal instincts. I get some of it, some of it I thought was extreme. Some of it I thought was just a cop-out.
As for Bruce's book, I checked it out on Amazon - sheer curiosity. The first line of the book is: Women are willing to purchase a man off the rack, but then they want to take him home and make alterations. Supposedly the whole book is more humor than it is anything like "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" (which I havent read either).
So guys... any of you like to cuddle up? As in, truly like to spoon or jump under a blanket to watch a good movie (even if sex isnt on the menu)??
Any of you think you might be offended if you caught your GF looking at porn online on a regular basis?
Any of you look at a girl you've just had mind-blowing sex with and wonder what the future holds, or think about how much you love her?

| | | I believe, Independent, if you were to revisit posts from the guys here with those questioin mind, the answers would be self-evident.
By and large, media only feed-back what it's imagined their target audiences want to hear. Not unlike designing products for a perceived market. Even books. Way back when, my New York literary agent told me to spend LOTS of time searching libraries, looking for books which didn't exist. If I found no titles on a given topic, THAT'S the book proposal he wanted me to write for him to pitch.
Personally, I don't attach much significance to much of anything media have to say. In parallel with what Johnny Cochran said about the O.J. Simpson trial, ("The color of justice is green."), implying law has nothing to do with justice, media content is, more often than not, just the glue which holds the commercial plugs together and has nothing at all to do with real information or relevance.

Oh yes, I thought it would have been common knowledge by now. Not just that, but also the fact that men actually came from another planet to brutalize and enslave a far more intelligent race of women who due to their peaceful intentions resisted any urge to fight this occupation.
The race of men proceeded then to genetically modify the race of women (who before the incursion of men reproduced A-sexually), to be unable to reproduce without sexual intercourse with this far more inferior species. It is no wonder then that these two completely different species to this day have so many distinctions. The race of men, who evolved from some kind of underdeveloped, sluggish lizards from planet X and the women who evolved from dolphins and other types of cute and intelligent creatures.
Thanks to people like Oprah, the truth is now coming out by the bucketfuls. Who needs science and other oppressive schools of thought created by these rugged beasts to find out the truth, when there is Television?
Join the fight and the guerilla tactical liberation force of women around the world to fight male species oppression and brutality today!!!

| | You know what... I have to agree. I'm not much into the TV thing, unless its documentaries or CSI (though I have to admit a recent fling with the 30 minute version of Sex in the City).
I'd still love some direct answers to the questions though

(Coincidentally my Ex's answer - who I might add was a woman - to the above would have been a negative response if all variables in the question such as "gf/girl/her" were replaced with "bf/boy/him")

As for Dr Phil - he really upsets me sometimes.
Ironically, not being the TV type myself, my EX was one to watch daytime shows like that. In the late afternoon I think there was a whole slew of crappy shows - Dr Phil, Oprah, Maury, Jerry Springer, etc - that he would watch.
Cheating, Paternity tests, fighting, you name it. I couldnt even go in my room for that 3 or so hour block of time - it was horrible. Not only that but he would be making remarks at the TV... or crying along with the show. I couldnt handle it - Blek!

| | | "Men are from mars and woman are from Venus" I think is a very good book. It's gives you rationalization to why we do what we do. It makes a lot of sense, and I think you should read that book if you get a chance Independent.
