I believe it is Plato who has an argument for the existance of God. Without boring with details, he says that people who believe in God generally live a better life than those who don't. They're better people on the average. If you believe in God and there is no god, you've lost nothing. If you don't believe in God and there is a God, you lose big. So put all that together and you might as well believe in God as it's the best option available.

So, that being said, I'm going to go ahead and believe what I was told. Whether it was a lie or not, I'm happier believing it's true.
