I think I've actually in a way conditioned myself to think 'guy with really nice abs = egotistical dickhead'. It may not always be true, but it's just the first thing that comes to my head.
On the flip side, I tend to equate obese men with beer guts with sloth and low self esteem. So I guess I prefer a nice average waistline.

If you are hoping that your abs will attract girls, well, then you'll get only those who are attracted to physical traits primarily.
Personally, I think that its important to take care of oneself w/a healthy lifestyle (healthy eating, regular exercise--physical and mental, some kind of spiritual development) but all of these things should be in balance. And I look for those same traits in a partner. Ripped abs are nice, but as a sign of what I just mentioned, not as an end unto itself.
