What I'm saying is I've struggled with default controls since the launch of the Xbox, and I'll never be as good as those who are comfortable with it.
If I forced you do play southpaw with all of your games, yeah you'd get used to it, but you'd always want to go with what is naturally comfortable with you.
Yeah, I can play sufficiently in terms of the single player, and some light gamin' with my friends. But when it comes to crunch time, which these games often come down to, when it's you against 1 really good player or even multiple opponents, when your reflexes need to be lightning quick, your accuracy unflawed, I am automatically at a disadvantage. I can point, sweep and spray the machine gun, and melee to my heart's content, but I can't touch the sniper rifle, and I'm ****ed if I have a shotgun duel. No doubt they'll score the headshot before I can gain my bearings to turn around for another go.
Swapping the sticks to southpaw isn't much better even though you can do it. The cover/run button is still A, which is very impractical as it's right above the movement joystick. And when using the chainsaw, I have to move/turn with the right joystick, not the left which would make more sense. Like Halo, I have to use my right pointer finger to press all the face buttons and my middle finger to pull the trigger. This was easier with the old Xbox's duke controller because of the formation of the face buttons. But now with the "S" like controller and the frequent use of the face buttons in GoW, it simply isn't worth me slapping down 60 bucks for a game I can't completely enjoy.
Believe me dude. I know, it's an argument I've been contending with ever since they put two joysticks on a controller.
There really isn't a good excuse for developers
not to leave the controls to be completely customizable.
