Um, yeah, I knew that (I have an espresso machine, too). The difference with the Cuban coffee is that they brew you a half cup, and apparently it's very dark and thick, so you pour little shots of it from your cup and drink it that way.

| | | My grandmother drinks Cuban coffee. I've never seen her pour shots like that, but she does drink it in these itty bitty coffee cups. They look like something out of a kid's tea set.

| | I've had real, fresh Columbian coffee. In Columbia. Nothing at all like what you get here.
If its good coffee, and roasted properly, you don't need to add milk. Sometimes, just a bit of hot water (tinto) if its very strong.
Starbucks is the worst coffee I have ever had. They overroast the beans, IMO. Good beans shouldn't be oily, they should be light brown and with a crisp scent. They only get that oily film if they've been left too long.

| | | You would think, that for their huge empire, that they could afford to offer some actual premium coffee, fresh roasted. Maybe they do now; I don't go often. But I've been in the last 6 months & its still awful engine oil. Dunno what Tim Hortons uses, but at least its innocuous. More like hot chocolate than coffee.
I had some lovely real Blue Mtn Jamaican coffee not too long ago. $40/lb, so glad I wasn't paying but it was very good coffee.
Lol, I misspelled 'Colombia'. Too long in the US. | |

| | | You people are too fuccking picky. Whatever dissolves the most caffeine is what gives the greatest perk, and it happens to be espresso. Who gives a shit how it tastes? Maybe it's an acquired taste and I learned to love it, who knows? Maybe I'm alone in primarily drinking coffee for the effects

| | | Isn't regular drip coffee considered the most caffeine dense?
Looked it up espresso more dense but standard serving of drip has more than likewise of espresso. Cheaper too.

Correct. The darker a bean is roasted, the more caffeine is burnt off in the roasting process. Therefore mild roasted drip coffee contains more caffeine. Espresso just seems stronger because it's darker roasted and more concentrated. Caffeine in it is pretty mild, though.

| | | Well Wikipedia states espresso averages 100mg caffeine / 50 mL, with drip averaging 145mg caffeine / 207mL. So according to them espresso is more than twice as concentrated in caffeine as drip, unless "mild roasted" is some special type of coffee, not that I'd know

| | | no that sounds about right. it's not going to extract as much caffeine because espresso is brewed more quickly than drip. but it is more concentrated. also it depends on how strong you make the coffee. people have varying opinions on how much coffee should be used.
