tents
so i camp out just about every weekend in the summer. we go fishing. a few weeks after summer has begun, we begin to stay outdoors throughout each weekend. man, do i love the outdoors. but anyway, what's important, is that i get a tent. i am looking for something that would fit myself, and any camping equipment i have, which would have my backpack, tacklebox, sleeping bag, and fishing poles. maybe enough room to have a friend as a tight squeeze, if they didn't have a tent. maybe enough room for a couple to sleep in and have sex in, along with the camping equipment. i was thinking a 4man tent would be a good size. objections?

i'd really like to get an a-frame (pup) tent that isn't difficult to set up, but those have really gone out of style and i can't find them anywhere. if you can point out any disadvantages of having that style of tent, i'd like to hear them. i just like the minimal, simplistic style of the a-frames, since i am a minimal kind of guy. plus, they are easy to enter/exit.

i don't know what works for materials. i don't plan on doing any winter camping, but it's always nice to have that option, in case shit happens. weather is versatile where i live, but it is usually very windy, and when it rains, it really rains. i also plan to take it with me to germany, where i will remain for a month after the spring semester, and go traveling throughout. so, lot's of traveling it will endure. so i am looking for something four-season, pretty durable, that will last quite a few years. is canvas a good option? i don't think they use that material much anymore.

last of all, i am trying to get the best of these worlds, with the cheapest cost i can. i don't really have a lot of money, and i've got to save a lot for my trip to germany. if you have any good websites to look at, please share. the most i will spend is around $300, but i am really looking at tents that are about half that.

with that, here's a tent that i've picked out that i really like, but i am still undecided:

I like pop-up dome tents. You can put them up in less than 5 minutes all by yourself, and they are pretty cheap.

Real men drape a wool blanket over a branch and sleep in a bed of leaves.

Real men should get tents that might be big enough to fit a girl inside. Get a two-person tent, 'wing- big enough for you and your pack (or you and a friend), and I agree with Vash about the dome design. It's just plain better.

Haha, trees.... we don't have trees here son. Real men sleep on shale terrain in twenty degree weather, without blankets or heavy clothing, like I did last saturday. Not smart, when there are all kinds of deadly insects and beasts roaming around. So that's what a foolish 'tough guy' does, or what a poor chap without a tent does.

And again, why, specifically do you like dome tents? I don't get it.

Whatever you do, consider carefully the actual dimensions of any "2-man" tent you are thinking about getting. Those things barely enough room to jack off in from my experience. It's nice to have a corner for all the dirty stuff (i.e. everything.)

That's pretty bad ass you go camping every weekend. God I haven't gone in so long. Hopefully moving into a co-op will open some doors to more hippie stuff. I miss hippie stuff.

when i go backpacking i don't even take a tent. i take a tarp and some rope and some stakes.

tents are so ****ing heavy. then you get a light one for backpacking and you can barely fit in it. lame.

Someone told me that a 2-man tent is only for 2 people in a survivalist situation - not for comfort. If you want 2 people to fit comfortably, get a 3 or 4 man tent.

Misombra - I can deal with the dirt while camping, but the idea of bugs and yucky things crawling on me when I sleep is too horrifying to allow me to sleep without a tent.

around here the bugs go bye bye at night. we're lucky to not have a lot of bugs in nm.
