Depends on what your father has done for you ... There are a lot of deadbeat dads, but mothers usually stick around for the long haul ... I'm sure the number of fathers leaving their kids is much higher than mothers doing it.

When I have steady cashflow, I'll take my dad to a baseball game and/or dinner ... And I try not to piss him off ... just that day.
