he had been in hospice for about a year. he was a survivor of the bataan death march in world war II and spent 3 and a half years in a japanese pow camp where he suffered, and survived a fate worse than hell.
he came back to create a family and carry on the strength and courage that lived in him.
now, go and tell your mom or dad or whoever that you love them for me. it would make me feel a lot better.

| | i think so. i didn't get a call with a warning you know. usually someone could know within a day or two when it's going to happen. i don't think anybody did. which is good. he's 88. i'm not sure exactly how old is is. crazy thing is today (sunday) is my sisters birthday.

he liked to sing that song. he liked when i sang to him. i would sing this for him...

You know he's in a better place and at peace. My prayers and wishes are with you and your family.

Sadly, I don't have any more of my grandparents. They were all WW2 vets as well. Granma lived in Stalingrad in 1942. Their whole family escaped on a tiny rowing boat across the Volga river at night when the city was being leveled to the ground.

| | | on the brighter side, you are very lucky that you got to be with your grandparents. sometimes, i wonder how much better life would've been if i actually got to converse and associate more with my mother's side of the family. half of my family is in another country and there is also the language barrier.

| | | I kinda feel what you do Misombra. The grandpa I lost I was not close to though, my other grandparents and grandmother I'm not sure how I am going to handle their loss. And it's coming within the next couple of years. I dread it. I've also had many losses in my family and have been to the funerals, but I'm trying to prepare myself.
You've had a troublesome week no doubt. I know things will improve for you no matter what. You are a very strong woman!
