I have to get this off my chest, because it's one of the things on this board that annoys me the most.

It's a great thing to be proud of your country, but I get sick of other people getting on here and openly bashing each other's homeland.

I'm guilty of it myself. Being Canadian, and VERY proud of my homeland, I get really offended when being bashed by people who think they know all about us, but really know shit all. Likewise, I'm sure Americans get tired of being bashed by every other nation represented on this board, because generalizing a population due to a government's actions is not right. Not everyone thinks alike.

So, is it too much to ask for people to keep their hating comments to themselves? Also, tone down the ridiculous patriotism ( you know who you are, 'my-country-kicks-everyone-else's-ass' zealots). No one cares how much more intelligent or awesome or strong you think your country is compared to the rest of the word. So please just shut up about it.

i think we, as americans, are put on the defensive a lot. i don't think there's a single american in this forum who would deny that there are problems and fundamental change is needed.

but in the face of certain attacks and insults, one has an urge to defend and attack.

I get that, and I know I've done it. I just think we need to stop being so nasty about it. Turn the other cheek, take the moral high ground, and all that shit?

Nothing wrong with pride. Just would like to see it kept in check. It's kind of like the religion threads....it's another one of those things that offends somebody and gets most people riled up.

i think the arguments and debates are good. without them, lf would be boring.

just, you know... if you're gonna talk shit about somebody's country, then you're asking for somebody to talk some shit right back to you.

so if you can't take it, don't dish it out.

I agree, this place is a great place to share how we feel, as long as we use TACT. I don't think it's necessary to attack people in subject matter just like this stuff. But we all have opinions are probably feeling very strong about it and that's the only way they know how to express it. I ALWAYS tell my son, if you're feeling strong about something, just think about it a minute before spilling the vocals so as not to offend the person.

No need to get upset about it. I get bashed, as an American, and I could give a shit. I know I love my country and I could care less what anyone else's opinion is.

People only get upset when they are asked to take a look at hard issues.

But yes, its definitely more comfortable to say nothing & do nothing, agreed. Look at what saying nothing nearly got us in WWII.

I am not bashing USA because its governments acts, I am bashing it because of its people.

I recently saw a nice comment in this forum. It was something in the lines of 'why would anyone need/want to attack us, we would kick their asses'... Yes, USA kicks everyones asses, brings justice to the world, we kick yours. You know what? A country should be proud if it can keep peace without having a big army. Its your own attitude that annoys people, I don't know if this happened because of everyone bashing you or not, but yes, maybe it is a closed circle. Also the big capital letters with lots of hate words sure lowers you down. Also, i think it was one of the Nietchzes rules, that the more you defend the more reason you give to your enemy to attack, its human nature. Btw, I don't hate you.

i've heard a lot more canadians talking about how great their country is than americans talking about how great america is.

i think we've been pretty humble.

Canada is great, and there's nothing wrong with saying so. I'm talking about OFFENSIVE comments.

The difference would be if I was saying "Your country is a piece of shit next to mine, your citizens are all morons, and I spit on your flag."

That would be an offensive comment. Saying I love my country is not an offensive comment.

If the purpose of being offensive is to inspire people look at "hard issues", then I think all the America-bashing is failing miserably. I doubt I am the only one who has begun skipping or skimming posts made by biased (but obviously correct and morally superior) non-Americans.
