Recommended Anime - Love Forum

Not sure if this should go under Movies, but here goes . . .

You know I have very rarely gotten into the more mainstream Anime - anything they run on tv is usually not something I am super excited about. However, I have been watching a series called X - and really like it.

My only Anime issue is that I hate to spend $30 on something that I might not like - can anyone recommend any movies/series?

BTW: the reason I posted this is I know someone listed Anime as a hobby, can't remember who though. . .

I can't stand Dragon Ball Z - when they have those squeaky voices and super cartoony characters. But Akira was really cool, most computer people like that one. . .

I've only seen 1 Anime movie - and it was a porn. They like faught each other with sex and stuff... It was really stupid. Since then I dont watch ANY anime - porn ot not.

Yeah - i laughed my ass off when I saw it - but there really wasnt a story line to follow or anything - all I could figure out is that they were some kind of warriors that fought with sex and the first person to orgasm would faint or die or something - so if you ever orgasmed you lost. WEIRD

yeah - and one of the main ladies - yeah this is funny - she would use her pubic hair aws weapons - she would pluck out like 5-10 hairs and then straiten them and then throw them at you like they were sharp ass knifes and shit.

I wish I remembered the name to that movie - I would tell you all... but damn - my mind has gone blank.... Actually I dont think I ever knew the title of it. Hrm..

yo billy! how can you say anime sux if you've only watched one? but i know what you mean when you say something sux after you've watched it. but here's something i would like for you to do...

but seriously, that's not anime, that's hentai...or something like that. do this: if you can, download an anime called Love Hina. it's an Anime TV series, 26 episodes and 3 OAVs (mini movies). if you don't like this series, i will agree with you, but this is one of the best i've seen.

please watch it, if you can't find it, let me know, i'll upload it for you to watch at least one of them.

but here are some suggestions:

Love Hina (romantic comedy)
Initial D (only if you're into cars, also a romantic plot within)
Tenchi Muyo (you'll have to watch it)
Cowboy Bebop (action/comedy)
Trigun (comedy/action)
Fruits Basket (mushy/corny drama)
Ruroni Kenshin (ranma type action)
Lain (off the wall logic)
Noir (technical action)
Chobits (evangelion-like)

to name a few, but these are some of my favorites. Dragonball is a good one too but Dragonball Z is too much, it's not even a story anymore, don't watch Dragonball Z, just rock the t-shirts, but seriously, don't watch Dragonball Z.

I saw Cowboy Bebop in Target - - picked it held it but didn't commit to it. I know that they show it late at night on Comedy Central, but its past my bedtime! What's it about?

I have TONS of recommendations. Depends on what genre you are talking about though. And you're BEST bet is to download 'fansubs' (people in Japan will use a TV capture card to download the anime straight to their computer. Then they compress/encode it with usually Divx or Xvid (yes it's just divx backwards, but it works. Trust me.) Then they send the "RAW" episode to someone who will watch it and translate it. They then send the translation to someone who will type it all up, time it to the anime, then include it in the anime.

This method is used ONLY with new series that aren't out on DVD yet. THose that are out on DVD are MUCH easier to handle. You simply rip the anime to the computer, including whatever audio streams are available and any subtitles that are available, then encode it. MUCH easier/faster.

MOST anime you'll see are bound to be DVD-rips. If you want more info on anything I said, PM me.
