Okay, I was definately going to stay away from this thread because this is opinion based for the most part and some very valid points have been made on both sides. (But my head hurts......really, REALLY hurts ) But I do have to say that I am in support of government. It is a necessary evil. I can't even put a value on the police, fire and rescue and ambulance services in my town. Do I think politicians are corrupt? Yes. But what is the alternative? There has to be structure in a society and whether or not you think it is affecting you, truth be told, it touches all of us in one way or another. I have ALWAYS voted since I turned 18 and always will. For three reasons. One, women worked VERY hard to get the right and I respect that and exercise my right because of it. Two, my ancestors fought and died in two world wars to protect this democracy and the rights and freedoms we enjoy, (voting of which, is one). And three, I feel if I follow the apathetic crowd, don't vote and go around complaining about the state of affairs in this country, province or town, I would just be a hypocrite. Thus, voting gives me the right to gripe. By the way, I don't know about Fawn because she is in a different province, but if it weren't for our provincial government we wouldn't have the health care benefits we enjoy here in Ontario and after talking with Squirt about the state of things down there, I not only support the government but defend it as well.

I'm fine with calling it quits on this thread. Debating something that has always bored me isn't exactly fun. I can understand where you're coming from and I'm sure you're more than capable of seeing my viewpoint as well. There's no need to argue when we both know where the other is and that we'll be staying there.

Ha ha..I just had to explain that last post because the joke might not be so obvious. The irony I wanted to show was "who will get the last word"..so I said "it's over" and you said "okay, it's over" and I say "it's done" and you say "Okay" and I say "fine" and you say "well, then stop posting"..and so forth..but it's hard to make it happen..I guess I could have PMed you...oh well..

And Breeze, I feel you, but you bring up another point I can go off on:

When you mentioned that it was almost like a duty out of respect for those who fought hard to get you the right to vote, or the right to freedom..well, for women I can't relate to because I'm not one and I do sympathize with the bum deal women around the world still get, but as far as people saying stuff like: "you are disrespecting those who died so you can be free"..my mentality on this is that freedom is not a priviledge..it's the right of all mankind. And yes, I do enjoy freedom thanks to battles fought in times before me, but it had to happen sometime and if I wasn't free now, I'd be fighting for it..so while I am grateful that I didn't have to fight, I still think it's a right and not a privilidge and I don't really owe our ancestors more than gratitude and recognition..but aside from that I can have my own opinions on the current state of affairs in government and politicians. I disagree when people accuse those who don't fall in line with what the government claims to be the patriotic thing of being traders and ingrates toward those who died "to give them the very freedom to speak out in that manner"..

Did I make sense?

Freddie

By the way..I consider this a new topic, Zekk, branching off from the original politics talk, yes, but a new topic nonetheless, wouldn't you say? I say this only because I really did want to end that old one, and if you read carefully this really is different.

I haven't really read much of this thread. Anyway, I personally hope that Bush doesn't make it back into presidency. If he doesn't make it, then it would be easier for the US to withdraw troops from Iraq. But I don't live in the US or Iraq, so I'm not sure if the point I just made is valid or not.

Actually I am in the same province as you. Good old Ontario. I'm in London, btw (not the england version the Canadian version). Which, at the moment, tends to have the most controversial city government

I do agree that government is necessary when it comes to police, hospitals, funding, etc. I guess I would like the impossible; an actual trustworthy member of the government.

the only thing thats good about watermelon is that i can shoot the seeds out of my mouth ****ing really fast and it really hurts when it hits someone - kinda like a BB gun i guess. Its pretty cool. Other than that, I HATE watermelon...

*miss*

I shoot the seeds out of my fingers..it's fun because it's hard to be accurate. It could shoot off in any direction. Just squeeze between index and thumb..one at a time. They shoot out faster than you can possibly spit it, I'm sure.

another think is snapping pennies - oh man - i stopped doing that too - i had a problem of snapping them backwards and they would hit my arm or leg... not too fun having a penny hitting you in the leg at full speed point blank...

Have you ever snapped bottle caps? It's hard, but once you get it it's cool, they fly like frisbees.
