very compelling and i never really thought about it - but have noticed the same thing.
yeah.. i do think social media ruined forums now that i think about it.

people are only intersted in reading themselves and hearing their own opinions than reading others i guess.

very keen point.. it makes sense now.

Yep. Internet forums are garbage now. Nobody even really uses forums that much anymore. It's like they are becoming close to being obsolete, because of Facebook. There is one forum I thought may have been cool when I first came across it, but it's not in the least bit worth my while. It's the forum to do with the Upcoming Horror Movies website. Nobody there even seems to be that much of a real horror fan, to be honest. This just makes me wish Reel Horror was still around. For a site that discusses new horror movies, you would think you may get a few core lovers of this genre making decent posts, but alas, this seldom ever occurs nowadays.

Biohaze is the only "decent" Resident Evil online community that is left since all the famous ones like reHorror that were once littered with content, are long gone, but it's not that active. OK, it is active a lot depending on how you look at things. I'm not telling the complete truth when I say it's as dead as the zombies. But the members just seem to randomly post in a thread, but I never get a response much. Now and again, I make new threads about other games, and generally, nobody responds. For a survival horror related site, that's just way too dire for me. The other forums I've been visiting are the same - I visit forums to do with gaining sympathy or advice and sometimes, I like to talk about movies, or video games. The few active members that still lurk on the forums seem to have rather short attention spans, and certain ones even admit they don't like my vocabulary or they don't fully read my long posts. So then why bother replying at all? Sometimes, a poor reply is worse than no reply.

Maybe I do go on an obscure tangent at times, but I think I'm one of the few users online these days that actually puts some thought into what they are saying. The same with Jester here. He actually thinks about the content of his comments. But in general, forums are just lame now. Reddit looks good, but I'd assume there are tons of spoilers and perhaps a lot of trolls populating that side of the fence.

Certainly the ones not being moderated are what you said in your thread title. Makes it frustrating for the members.

Yeah. That or message boards where you can type for, oh... maybe only about 5 minutes (if even that) and when you go to post your message or send your PM you've been logged out for idle time. ....After MAYBE 5 minutes. ARGH!

    Thumbs up

I've had that too, but I think there's a 'remember me' option which keeps a user signed in until they manually flush their cookies.

That was just a not so subtle dig on this site's crappy bugs lately. I swear, I can be typing for less than 5 minutes and I'll already be logged out when I go to post it. It is aggravating.

The webmaster I think lost interest in this place after the mutiny, rofl and has done basicially nothing to maintain this place since other then change the look of the forums page and remove the chat box.

Thanks for the replies. They're very insightful to me. And it figures, too.

Forums truly are dead now. In fact, I noticed IMDb are closing down their forums later this month. There's only like 2 more weeks left before they are shut down. That decision is total trash, but it had to happen one day, I guess. However, how can you even consider doing something like that to the biggest goddamn films site online? IMDb covers every film out there with its own entry. Even unknown actors have their own sub-forum for people to post in. Like me. How cool is that?

Now that it will soon be gone, we'll only have Reddit and other trashy message boards left, where like I said already, the activity is as dry as a desert with no water. It's a travesty to see the Internet like this, but...all good things must come to an end, as they say.

But still; I don't think my opinion will change. It saddens me. As a gaming fan as well, I just hate this so much.

I saw that about the IMDb forums too, Peter -- what bullshit you know why it's because I heard they can't monetize them so its useless to them so they are turfing them, it alos could be all the miserable assholes spewing verbal vomit all them and it looks awful to an outsider reading or anyone with money in that website. They won't ever be upfront and say the truth behind it.

    Unhappy

There was a time when IMDb actually had moderators. I don't know why they done away with them. Maybe they got too drunk with power, or the forums just became so inactive that it hardly mattered to those in charge. Moderation on forums is important, because there are a lot of people that post spoilers or act like a douche bag on purpose. Unfortunately, I doubt anybody gets paid to do this job, so once the discussions dry up, there's no reason for anyone to stick around. In fact, I think the main reason people still use forums is because they are like me in that they want it to thrive again, but sooner or later, even I'll totally give up on the Internet. I'm almost at that stage, to be honest. And apart from that, life factors often need prioritized before anything else, so people outgrow things. However, that doesn't mean we will have to 100% abandon everything. It's still in our blood, I guess.

As a survival horror fan, it's sad to see either the games I've been waiting for getting cancelled, or the websites close down, or their post boards become so inactive that nearly everybody you got to know moves on. The horror game related forums that are left today only have the same few dozen people posting, but they only seem to post in the news or 'post your impressions' threads, and I wouldn't say a lot of the members treated me too great in the far past. All the other categories on the forums like the general chat sections are never active much, and there is never really any new users posting. There was a time when forums were so busy, you'd easily get 30 to 40 users signed in at once, and all the members would be rushing to say their bit in the latest threads. Now the same people I know from back then don't really get excited about new games in the same way they did in say, 2004. Perhaps it's because we're older.

Personally, I think Resident Evil peaked in 2002 and "died" a tragic death (at least in my opinion) in 2005. Once the franchise drifted into the third person shooter realm, everything in that franchise as well as other series like it, just got ruined beyond repair. The major companies developing these projects also have a tendency to copy whatever rival games are popular at the moment, so everything has been done countless times already.

The movie industry is the exact same: They just milk everything, or reboot a series because they think there's no other direction left to take. Hell, even Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is not a true sequel in my eyes. It has nothing to do with the "roots" of the series like Capcom proclaimed, but that does not necessarily make it a bad game. It's just that they use the name alone to rope us in. For a start, the guy you play as isn't even one of the regular characters that are a staple of the older games. There are no zombies any longer. The monsters are created from some sort of fungus, and the game is a first person adventure which was really only a viewpoint reserved for certain spin-off games. There's a few notes you find written by minor characters in the series like that reporter from Outbreak, to try to cleverly link stuff, but it's just a cry for attention. It's like how in Zero, they revealed that Survivor is canon because they mention that the city on Sheena Island was destroyed, yet few people actually care about that game. The only thing that was remotely related to the other games in 7, was that there is a spoiler at the end I won't reveal here. But other than that, the game is a stand alone entry.

As for forums in general; I've said it before many times: The people that use forums these days seem to have very short attention spans. Very recently, I started yet another thread about my issues to do with autism and anxiety, and I talked about how frustrated I've been because I feel social services aren't helping me. I'd also explained in the initial post in the thread regarding what happened with my former support agency, and how the judge who dealt with my charges thought I should give them a 'second chance' even after all the hurtful things that they did that partly landed me in the state I'm in today. And only one person responded out of many, but I find some people's reactions a bit insensitive, or maybe they overlook everything because they maybe read like just a paragraph of my rambling manifesto. Like, they say I've to just suck it up, like it never happened. But I think the issue is that people only understand how one feels when a similar ordeal has happened to them.

I was going to post the link, but it seems links don't work on here.

I have to agree forums seem to be even more terrible now. Not to insult this forum but it is a bit of a hassle to have 15 posts to use the private message function. And yeah I miss imdb despite its flaws. And Resident Evil has not been the same. Like many I wonder who are the actresses of Jill and Rebecca in the cutscenes of the first game.

So I was posting on Biohaze the other day and some touchy member replied calling my post senseless. God only knows why I still bother with the posting aspects of that site. It's trash now.

Basically, a major character will be returning in new content coming soon, and there was much speculation online from the fans of this franchise that it may have not been him (Chris Redfield). Anyway, somebody revealed that he was redesigned due to the graphics, hence why people like me weren't sure who he really was. For all we knew at the time, it could have been someone just posing as him. So I got a licking from a user over something I said. It was among the lines of, his model was changed already. People will get over it anyway. Why? Because they still buy the games no matter what, and post the same old cry baby style comments in any case. Typical adder-like attacks from a fanboy. Or girl. But either way - I think some hardcore fans go baboon on your butt for the least little remark.
