Well, yeah, but sometimes the "he's" need a little help.
I believe you're in the U.K someplace, and I really don't know much about your shared interests, so it's VERY hard to make good suggestions.
When my wife & I were first married we had some rather successful "homemade parties". We'd ask a half dozen or so friends to come over, and we'd mix them up in groups to make homemade donuts, and homemade ice cream, and homemade caramel corn, etc.
One year for her birthday we visited several churches in the area, just to look at the architecture or art or historically significant things. We had to do some preparation to find out what was worth seeing, and whether they catered to (versus merely tolerated) visitors who only wanted to look. And it helped that the St Louis Cathedral has some of the most impressive architectural mosaics in the world - that was half a day in itself. But it was a cheap date, and exposed us to the cultures associated with other beliefs.
In some U.S. cities, "cemetery tours" are catching on. Sometimes it's done through a printed guide, or sometimes a real (live) person conducts them. You can spend anywhere from an hour to most of a day searching out the graves of famous, or infamous, people and learning a bit of their history. Often you get detoured to look at unusual tombstones or notable epitaphs.
